I’m soooo excited!! We have reservations to see Smokey Joe’s Cafe at The Show Palace.
Six Eight of us are going and we’re at table 71, which is one of the best seats in the house, according to the reservations lady I spoke with today. She said it’s because it’s raised up so there’s nobody in front of you, you can see the whole show at once, and the sound is better. Our other choices were 5 and 12. I’m really looking forward to this – I’ll be thinking about it all week. We were talking about what to wear and everybody could easily guess what I plan on wearing, my favorite dress – the one I left in Tucson. Thanks for sending it to me, Mom & Dad! I’ve worn it at least twice since it got home. :)
Here’s the program description:
SMOKEY JOE’S CAFE
The Songs of Leiber and Stoller
Words and Music by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller
August 1st – September 21st, 2008
Leiber and Stoller, as much as anyone, virtually invented rock ‘n’ roll and now their songs provide the basis for an electrifying production that illustrates a golden age of American culture. In the summer of 2002, Smokey Joe’s café took the Show Palace by storm with its idealized 50’s setting and top-notch singing and dancing. Featuring nearly 40 of the greatest songs ever recorded, Smokey Joe’s Cafe is a toe-tapping feel-good show for all audiences. Songs include: Hound Dog, On Broadway, Jailhouse Rock, Poison Ivy, Saved and the rousing Stand by Me.
We would also like to go see the Christmas show – it looks really good, a perfect way to have a bit of holiday fun!
